About us

Driving Sustainable Change Through Empowerment and Innovation

Basadi Bakopane is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO No. 033-504), founded in 2004 with a bold vision: to empower women and youth, and to champion sustainable development throughout South Africa.

We create inclusive pathways for vulnerable and underserved communities—especially women, youth, and orphans—to become confident leaders, entrepreneurs, and role models. Through tailored mentorship, future-focused skills development, and entrepreneurial training, we help participants thrive in a changing world.

Our programmes are designed to integrate sustainability and 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) principles—equipping participants with the tools and technologies needed to innovate in fields such as smart agriculture, digital literacy, green energy, and water management. By fostering knowledge-sharing and practical, community-led solutions, we aim to break cycles of poverty and inequality.

At Basadi Bakopane, we believe that when women and young people are empowered to lead, communities become more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready

Current Projects

Youth Entrepreneurship Programme (YEP)

YEP is designed to ignite entrepreneurial thinking in young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through training in business planning, financial literacy, digital marketing, and innovation, we empower youth to launch and sustain their own ventures. The programme incorporates 4IR elements, including digital tools and e-commerce platforms, to help youth participate meaningfully in the modern economy. YEP promotes job creation, independence, and leadership in community-driven enterprises.

Community Care Worker Youth Service Project

This project introduces young people to the health and community care sector through structured service-learning. Participants receive foundational training in caregiving, community health awareness, and psychosocial support—building skills relevant for employment and social impact. The programme fosters empathy, responsibility, and purpose, while strengthening community health systems. Sustainability and digital tools are integrated to enhance service delivery and future opportunities.

Youth Leadership Training

Our leadership training equips young people with the skills, confidence, and mindset to become catalysts for change. The programme covers emotional intelligence, communication, civic engagement, critical thinking, and digital literacy. Participants take part in real-life problem-solving activities, group projects, and mentoring relationships. This initiative prepares youth to lead in both grassroots and formal settings—amplifying their voices in shaping a more inclusive and innovative South Africa.

Women in Farming Entrepreneurship

This initiative supports women in building sustainable agricultural businesses. Participants learn regenerative farming practices, climate-smart agriculture, and agro-processing techniques. In addition, they receive training in business development, financial planning, and market access. The programme combines traditional knowledge with modern agricultural technology, enabling women to grow thriving agri-enterprises that contribute to food security, income generation, and rural economic development.

I believe that while we cannot control everything in the world—earthquakes, droughts, or conflict—we can take action where it matters most. When we know where there is hunger, homelessness, and suffering, we have the power to step in, uplift, and transform lives through purposeful action.
